Santa visit

Nora & Evelyn,
Today we went to see Santa and tell him what you want for Christmas! Nora you were so excited the whole way there talking about sitting on his lap and asking for more puzzles, please! E, you were just in it for the fun! No idea what to expect! Once we got up to Santa, Nora you froze a little bit...not so sure of the jolly man in the red suit! Evy went first then Santa asked for your help, Nora. Since you're such a good big sister you took that task very seriously and hopped right up there! Smiles were another story though.... maybe next year!

N: I'll try and smile for you, mom but i'm not so sure about this...
E: who is this man's lap i'm sitting on and why is my sister so quiet for once?
N: "more puzzles, please"

N: "how much longer of this, mom?"

the snow globe!
N: "what's this, mama?"
me: "it's snow, nora."
N: "it not 'now.  it not cold and it not outside"
me: touche...

nora 27 months

nora boo,
even though you just turned two, so much has changed in the past 3 months that i thought we'd do a quick little update on you!  i thought that as you got older things would change less often, but you seem to be learning and changing every day!

age: 27 months (or 2 years and 3 months)
stats: 28lbs

clothes: wearing mostly 2T, but some 18-24 month stuff still fits, especially jeans.  some things i'm buying 3T so you can wear them for longer.  i've learned that the best thing for a toddler as active as you to wear is simple leggings & a tshirt/sweatshirt.  i bought several tunics & dresses for you to wear in the winter months and i think those will be easy for you to wear while potty training.

favorite foods: you are still the world's pickiest eater.  you LOVE noodles (grandma made up a story about "the noodle girl" and it's one of your favorite stories!), waffles, pancakes, oatmeal, fruit snacks, yogurt, turkey & cheese roll ups, cheese sticks, crackers & hummus (hearing you say "hummus" might be one of my favorite things!), anything you can dip and any dip itself (syrup, ketchup, PB, salsa, etc...), grapes, apples, applesauce... and really that's pretty much all you'll eat these days.

words: i could not even begin to count the amount of words you say, as you pretty much talk in complete sentences... nouns, verbs, prepositions, etc.  i think most people can understand you, although i know i'm the one that does the best.  you can't pronounce beginning sound /s/ so "snake" sounds like "nake", etc.  it's pretty cute though :) you also recently started saying that you love everything.  first it started out with constant "i love you, mommy" and now it's always "i love___.  i really love it!"  it will be anything from another family member to a toy to another friend of yours.  it's so sweet how loving you can be!
there are some words that you say that are my all time favorite and i don't ever want to correct you!
gymnastics: mastics
library: yivary
"talk pool" (when you want to talk about going swimming)
underwear: un-wears
flamingo: mingo
when evy is crying: "it's okay baby evy, it's okay."
when mommy is singing: "don't say that, mommy!"
(so many more, but i honestly can't keep track anymore!)

activities: gymnastics, story time at the library & miss kathy's house keeps us pretty busy! you LOVE going to mastics every week and ask me almost every day if it's "mastics day".
you started potty training just after halloween and it's going fantastic!  i think i have more anxiety about it than you do. you are SO excited to go in the potty.  you recently started going while we're out and about, which is a huge relief for me... the other day we went out for breakfast and after you went potty, you ran out of the bathroom yelling, "nora went pee pee in potty at restaurant!" all the people heard you and gave a little giggle :)
(update: 3+ weeks into this potty training business and you rarely ever have accidents anymore-knock on wood- but you are doing fantastic!)
at gymnastics
favorite things: little people & the dollhouse--you imaginary play so well with them.  they all have names and do certain things, like go potty, go to sleep, make dinner, etc.  your kitchen--you love to make mommy & daddy noodles or cupcakes in your kitchen.  minnie mouse--you love this little mouse! anything you can build--you love to use legos & blocks.  play doh & crayons--you have quite the imagination while playing, creating, and coloring!
signature moves: when you're in trouble, you close your eyes real tight and stand very still... do you think we don't see you?! you love singing into a pretend microphone, especially your favorite song "twinkle twinkle little star"
screaming.  oh the screaming.  when you're not getting enough attention, you let it go!

big sister status: you L.O.V.E. evelyn!  first thing every morning you ask to see her.  you love to give her things she needs (or so you think she needs), get burp cloths, blankets, and diapers for her.  often i'll hear you say...
"evy wake right now? please?" if she's napping...
"baby evy need paci. no crying, baby evy!"
although ONE time just after we brought evelyn home from the hospital, grandma was holding her and you walked down the stairs after a nap and saw her holding evy and screamed, "no not that one!!!!" at grandma and told her to put evy down in the swing.  grandma and i had to hold in our laughter :)

there are so many things that i just love about you, noraboo.  you are the sweetest, sassiest little lady and you have my whole heart.  i have loved every minute staying home with you these past few weeks.  i am dreading leaving you and your sister when i return to work, but i will always cherish my time with you.  you and i have a bond like no other.  this is what i always wished for with my daughters and will never take this for granted.

you have a heart of gold.  you are determined, yet hesitant.  you are confident, yet cautious.  you are independent, yet need our help.  watching you learn new things for the first time and taking in the world is such a gift.  you make me one happy mama!
xoxo,
mommy

thanksgiving 2015

nora & evelyn,

happy thanksgiving!! i love celebrating holidays with you two and this year is even better, as i'm still on maternity leave!
we kicked off thanksgiving eve with the downtown tree lighting ceremony & our too-many-years-to-count annual mac n cheese night.  aunt kristen & i started this back in high school and although she and uncle mike don't join us anymore, we still keep it going!

with uncle kyle & evy

this year we started our thanksgiving morning off with some pumpkin pie oatmeal & the macy's thanksgiving day parade.

then after many hours of getting 4 people showered, dressed & fed we finally made it to grandma & papa's for dinner!

after game playing, turkey eating & wine drinking at grandma & papa's, we headed over to gigi & papa's for dessert.
(and wrestling with uncle mike & snuggles uncle jimmy)

a late bedtime means soo much fun for all!  what a great day to reflect on what we truly are thankful for... family, health & happiness. (and warm coffee! )

first snow!!

nora & evelyn,

this past weekend it snowed for the first time this season!! nora, this was the first snow that i think you really remembered, or at least were excited for.  last year you did NOT like the snow--too cold for you! you keep saying, "its 'nowing mommy!!"  evelyn, this was your first snow!! not that you'll remember it...

it started snowing late friday night after bedtime.  i woke nora up so you could see it coming down.  it is such a magical sight to see... your first snow of the season! (even for the non-snow-loving me)  seeing the wonder in children's eyes during the first snow makes you look at things differently.

saturday morning we had a birthday party to go to, but we quickly rushed home to put on our snowpants and boots to play outside!

"I tuck, mama! I tuck!" (tuck=stuck)
mom stinks at building snowmen so we resorted to making snow castles with our sand toys, sledding with the neighbors, and making snowballs.

making snow angels

evy is not so sure about the snow...

after what seemed like forever, we came inside for some hot chocolate & snuggles!

and just because this one is too funny... :)

happy two months, evelyn!

dear evy girl,
you are two months old now! it's crazy how fast time flies (yes, i know i've said this and will continue to say this every single month with both your sister and you!).  we love you so very much and i am loving spending my days with you!
you are the most easy going, laid back baby.  even if this changes down the road and you throw us for a loop, i'll look back on these first two months and count my blessings!  you made the transition from one to two kiddos so much easier than i expected.

this month you started smiling!!!! you smile HUGE grins and it just melts our hearts!  the best is when you smile at nora and she says, "mommy! she's looking at me! she's smiling at nora!" and she just can't help but touch you and smile right back at ya!
i swear you rolled over two times when i wasn't looking, too.  i put you on your tummy and went to tend to something with nora and not only 3 seconds later you were on your back.  i have yet to see it for my own eyes though!

if i go through your "LOVES" and "HATES", you pretty much just love everything.... the swing, bouncer, solly baby wrap (you love when i wrap you up and wear you!), rock n play sleeper, your paci, being held (you are quite the snuggly little babe), and eating.
you are not a huge fan of getting your diaper changed, getting into the car seat, or being hungry. you also don't like to be left alone... you like to be where the party's at.  but then again, what baby is a fan of these things!?

you're in size 1 diapers, 0-3 month clothes & pj's.  it's so fun to put you in some of nora's old clothes and look back at when nora wore those outfits.  nora has taken to saying, "that nora's when nora baby!"
you weigh 9 pounds 13 ounces (16th percentile) and are 22.5 inches long (56th percentile).  the doctor is happy with your weight gain so far, so therefore so are we.

you are sleeping through the night for the most part.  we feed you around 9/9:30 and you sleep 10:00-5/6:00ish.  sometimes earlier and sometimes later.  this is awesome and we're loving every extra minute of sleep we can get.  even if you stop being a rockstar sleeper, i'll take the last few weeks of good sleep.  so thank you :)

you eat pretty much every 2-3 hours and make it well known if you are hungry!  you are an efficient eater and are pretty good at nursing.  you'll take a bottle from dad, too.  you are still being treated for reflux and some days seem worse than others.  otherwise, you've been healthy!

there are so many wonderful things i could say about you, miss evy girl.  your daddy and i love you so incredibly much.  we never knew it was possible for our hearts to grow even bigger and love another sweet daughter, but they did and we do! you truly are a gift to us.
we love you to the moon and back, baby girl!
xoxo,
mommy & daddy
